Andhra pradesh train accident update: 

In a tragic incident in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, two trains collided resulting in the death of 13 passengers and injuring 50 others. The mishap occurred when a passenger train bound for Rayagada from Visakhapatnam derailed near Vizianagaram, leading to a rescue operation in progress.



The collision took place between Alamanda and Kantakapalle in the Vizianagaram-Kottavalasa Railway Section of the Waltair Division of the East Coast Railway Zone around 7 pm. Collector S Nagalakshmi confirmed the unfortunate incident at Kantakapalli railway station, where the casualties occurred. Presently, the rescue teams have reported eight fatalities and 50 injuries, with the wounded transported to Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram district hospitals.


Officials including Collector S Nagalakshmi, SP M Deepika, Minister Botsa Satyanarayana, and others have arrived at the scene to oversee the ongoing rescue operations. Prime Minister Modi has taken stock of the situation, and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has communicated with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy regarding the distressing incident.

Reason For The Accident:

According to preliminary findings, the probable cause of the train collision appears to be human error, particularly the overshooting of a signal by the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada passenger train.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has expressed profound sorrow over the Kantakapalli train accident in Vizianagaram district. He has instructed officials to swiftly initiate relief measures and ensure that the injured receive immediate medical care. The Chief Minister has recommended deploying as many ambulances as feasible from the neighboring districts of Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli and arranging for comprehensive medical assistance in nearby hospitals.


A statement from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) shared on X stated, "The CM has conveyed his deep condolences regarding the Kantakapalli train accident incident in Vizianagaram district. He has directed officials to promptly implement relief efforts and ensure timely medical attention for the injured. Furthermore, the Chief Minister has advised the mobilization of numerous ambulances from the nearby districts of Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli, along with the establishment of suitable medical facilities in nearby hospitals. Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that all injured people have been shifted to different hospitals for treatment and announced a compensation of ₹ 10 lakh for families of the deceased.
